Effects of Health-Related Factors on Elderly Happiness

Empirical examination of determinants of happiness which is the sum of positive emotions and satisfactions of individuals throughout their lives for the different segment of the society is one of the hotly debated issues among academicians and policy makers. The purpose of this article is to analyze the effects of health-related factors on elderly happiness. In this regard, it has been interviewed with 440 people over 65-year-old from the different part of Ankara, and data has been obtained by using multi-dimensional PERMA (Positive emotions, Engagement, Relationships, Meaning, Accomplishment) Well Being Scale. In the analysis of the data, descriptive statistics and exploratory factor analysis were applied for construct validity. For reliability analysis, Cronbach Alpha and Pearson correlation tests were used. It has been observed that the happiness of those who have health insurance, those who benefit from public hospitals, those who do not have chronic diseases, those who do not use regular drugs, those who have sleep patterns, and those who do not have memory difficulties, are higher than the others.
